Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

 

August 5, 2005

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:        Mike Niccum, District Safety Officer

                                                Richard Farfan, Administrative Dept. Safety Coordinator

                                                David Drewien, Maintenance Department Safety Coordinator

 

1.  Minutes of Last Meeting:

 

Minutes of the last safety committee meeting held on May 10, 2005 were reviewed.

 

2.  Accidents or Incidents:

 

There were no reports of accidents or incidents. 

 

3.  Reports of Unsafe Conditions or Hazards:

 

Mike reported there were no written suggestions received in the suggestion boxes and no written reports of unsafe conditions or hazards.

 

4. Safety Inspections:

 

The General Manager, District Engineer, Field Operations Manager and electrician are scheduled to perform a hazard assessment at Pump Station P-7 (18th Fairway Pebble Beach Golf Links) and the odor control room at Pump Station P-3 (Spyglass Hill Road and 17-Mile Drive).  A list of minor safety suggestions developed on the last assessment that primarily related to additional warning signage and use of personal protective equipment will be reviewed.

 

5.  Safety Meeting Reports:

 

The maintenance department continued to hold weekly safety meetings.  Topics included lockout tagout procedures, excavation, hand safety, chainsaw operation, electrical safety, construction site safety, slips, trips and falls and confined space entry.  Topics for monthly administration department safety meetings included office equipment ergonomics and safe lifting techniques.

 

6.  Training:

 

Maintenance and engineering staff attended eight hours of trench safety and traffic control training courses provided by ACWA/JPIA (Association of California Water Agencies Joint Powers Insurance Authority).

 

The committee reviewed the schedule for training courses and identified confined space entry, respirator and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillation) training as the highest priority.  Mike will arrange CPR/AED training to be provided by fire prevention captain David Jones.

 

7.  Next Meeting:

 

The committee agreed to schedule a meeting in November 2005 with the exact date to be determined later.
