RECOMMENDATIONS

·        Review and consider approving a general itinerary and date for a Board field trip to review conditions relating to fire protection.

SUMMARY OF ISSUES

Periodically, Board field trips are scheduled to review and inspect conditions of property and/or facilities relating to fire protection.  It is suggested that the Board’s next field trip regarding fire protection matters might include some of the following optional components:

1.      Observe key open space areas within the Forest impacted by the PBCSD Fire Defense Plan, including Pescadero Canyon, Huckleberry Hill and Sawmill Gulch, and/or

2.      Inspect the recently completed extension of fire road no. 22 / 23 in Pescadero Canyon, and/or

3.      Observe the condition of vacant lots not yet in compliance with vegetation clearance requirements, and/or

4.      Visit CDF Monterey/San Benito Counties Ranger Unit Headquarters on Garden Road in Monterey for the primary purpose of observing and receiving a briefing on the operations of the CDF central communications center, and/or

5.      Tour fire stations: the PBCSD Main Fire Station; CDF Forest Fire Station near the Hwy. One Gate; and/or Cypress Fire Protection District’s Rio Road Fire Station, which was remodeled several years ago, and/or

6.  Participate in a joint social lunch with the Board of Directors of the Cypress Fire  Protection District (at a local restaurant, without a business agenda).

Notices will be posted that the trip is a public meeting of the Board and those who normally receive copies of the Board’s agenda will be notified.  As in the past, it is suggested that the trip be held in the morning.  Vans will be provided by CDF and if any visitors wish to accompany the Board, they may do so in their own vehicles or ride in one of the vans.

Alternative dates suggested include:

·        Tuesday or Wednesday, September 13 or 14;

·        Monday, September 19;

·        Monday or Tuesday, September 26 or 27; or,

·        Thursday or Friday, October 6 or 7.
