SUMMARY OF ISSUES

The District will hold a general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 to elect three persons to the PBCSD Board of Directors.  Two of the director positions are for four-year terms of office and one director position is for two years.  The “short term” seat is the remaining term of the position now held by Director Richard Verbanec, which was  previously held by Hampton Stewart who resigned in March 2004 to move to out of the District.  Director Verbanec is the only person who declared to run for the two-year “short term” of office.  As he has no opposition for the seat, the State Elections Code provides that his name will not appear on the November ballot and the County Board of Supervisors will be required to officially certify that he has been elected to the Board.

Inasmuch as incumbent Director, Nancy McCullough did not file for re-election, the filing period for the two “long term” four-year positions was extended to August 17th.  Three residents have filed for the two four-year seats, including incumbent PBCSD Director, Jeffrey B. Froke.  One of the candidates for a long term director position is Steve D. Rhee who had previously applied to the Board in 2004 for appointment to temporarily fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Stewart.  The other candidate for a long term seat is Gerald Verhasselt.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Del Monte Forest Property Owners, and serves as the Chairperson of its Neighborhood Representatives Committee.

Background information regarding the non-incumbent Board candidates is enclosed.
