Subject: Monthly Activity Report – July 2006
OPERATION:
Emergency Incident Responses:
On July 1, fire crews responded to a
vegetation fire in the area of Highway 68 and SFB Morse Gate. Firefighters extinguished a small spot fire of
grass, brush and pine needles. The cause is undetermined.
On July 3, fire crews responded to a
vegetation fire on Viscaino Road. Upon
arrival at scene, firefighters extinguished a small spot of smoldering
grass. The cause of the fire is
undetermined.
On July 17, fire crews responded to a
vegetation fire on Congress Road. The
fire burned grass and light brush and measured 50’X50’ in size. The fire was caused by fireworks.
On July 20, fire crews responded to a
vegetation fire on Arroyo Road. The fire
burned grass and tree litter and measured 20’X20’ in size. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
On July 21, fire crews
responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Congress Road and Fire Road
#2. The fire burned grass, brush and
pine trees and was contained at approximately a 1/2 acre. The CDF investigator believes the fire was
caused by improper extinguishment of smoking materials.

Apparatus and Equipment:
All district apparatus are in service.
TRAINING:
In July firefighters participated in the
following training drills or sessions:

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
All personnel trained on how to deal with emergency medical calls
involving burn victims. Firefighters
also reviewed the Monterey County EMS protocols for burns (chemical, electrical
& thermal), as well as the use of the patient burn charts.
·
Wildland Fire Training
Firefighters drilled on laying fire hose and constructing fire line
with hand tools. The hose lays were done
in various fuel types and also on differing types of terrain.
·
Ladder Truck Training
All personnel trained on proper ladder truck operations. The training involved setting up the aerial
ladder on various buildings, climbing, carrying tools aloft, and rescuing victims
using the ladder tip.

New Fire Fighter Training
Newly hired fire fighters trained on all pieces of apparatus. This included truck and engine operations, using
the tools, equipment, and fire hose.
They also trained on the proper policies and procedures required for
various emergency incidents.
FIRE
PREVENTION:
General
Information:
Captain Jones was assigned to the Rico and
Paris fires in the southern part of Monterey County as a Food Unit Leader.
Engineer Valdez was assigned to the Rico
fire as a Technical Specialist in Geographical Information Systems (mapping and
research utilizing computers).
Staff conducted daily inspections at the
Pebble Beach Equestrian Center during the “Equestrian Classic”.
Staff coordinated with the United States
Secret Service for the News Corp event which was held at Spanish Bay
Resort. Numerous international
dignitaries were present during the 5th day event.
Captain Jones attended the Monterey County
Special Events Committee meeting at Laguna Seca.
FIRE
DEFENSE:
“No Fireworks” signs were placed at all
entrances to Pebble Beach prior to the July 4th holiday.
Residential fire inspections are continuing.
More than 800 inspections have been completed to date.
Vacant lot inspections are on going.
Gabilan Fire Crews completed the annual fire
defense plan maintenance in Pescadero Canyon.
Crews are currently working on the remainder of the fire road system and
the Huckleberry Hill Fuel Break.
Public Education and Training:
Engineer Valdez taught a citizen CPR class
in the District training room on July 8th.
Plan Review and Inspections:
The following inspections and plan checks
were completed during this reporting period:
10 Sets of plans were received for review
this month.
8 Sets
of plans were “finalized”.
12 On site inspections were completed this
reporting period.
This included construction, alarm,
sprinkler or final inspections.
