Subject: Monthly Activity Report – April 2006
Operation:
Emergency Incident
Responses:
On April 18, fire crews responded to a
reported structure fire on Sloat Road. Upon arriving at the scene, the
firefighters found newspapers burning on top of a desk in the rear
bedroom. The fire was caused by a desk
lamp that had been knocked over onto the newspapers. Only minor damage occurred.
Other incident responses are listed on the Monthly Response Activity
Report.
Apparatus and Equipment:
All district
apparatus are in service.
Training:
In April firefighters
participated in the following training drills or sessions:

Emergency
Medical Services (EMS)
All personnel participated
in a CPR refresher course at the Carmel Hill fire station. Firefighters were also required to
participate and pass their quarterly AED (Automatic External Defibrillator)
testing at the same time.
·
Ropes and
knots
Firefighters reviewed
the basics of ropes and knots in preparation for the upcoming rope rescue
course. The training also included a
refresher of various rigging systems and over the side rescue procedures.
·
Building
Construction
Several
firefighters attended a Building Construction course at the Hyatt in
Monterey. The class gave personnel an in
depth look at various building construction techniques, different types of building
materials used today and in the past. It
also focused on the signs of potential building collapse and rescue operations.
·
Truck
Operations
Firefighters
participated in a Multi-Agency Training drill at the Embassy Suites Hotel in
Seaside with Truck 6671. The training allowed firefighters to practice truck
operations at a high rise fire. The
drill was conducted with Seaside, Marina and Monterey Fire Departments.
Prevention
General Information
·
The annual
fire hydrant flow testing has been suspended while Cal Am concludes repairs to
the Forest Lake storage tanks. Staff has
met with Cal Am and the tank repairs have been concluded. Cal Am is in the process of getting these
tanks back on line. We anticipate being
able to initiate flow testing in June.
·
The Monterey Peninsula Country Club project is
currently the largest construction project in the forest. Initial fire inspections have been conducted
on the basement sprinkler system, as well as the re-model on the original
building.
·
Final preparations for the Open House are
underway. We are at twenty confirmed
vendors tables.
Fire Defense
·
CDF Forester
Bray submitted her Fuels Assessment Report at the previous meeting of the
District Board. Since that meeting, she
has met with Chief Carreiro and representatives from Gabilan Conservation Camp
reviewing the priorities for this year’s fire defense maintenance.

Maintenance to the
Fire Road 23 Fuel Break
Maintenance to the
Fire Road system
Continue the
thinning of the Huckleberry Hill Fuel Break.

FAE Valdez attended a state-wide class on the new
“Defensible Space” requirements. Staff
is currently reviewing the new regulations and developing an educational packet
for the District residents. Residential
fire safety inspections are scheduled to begin in June.
Public Education and Training
·
Fire Captain Jones and FAE Valdez were re-certified
as Instructors for American Heart CPR training.
Plan Review and Inspections
