Operation:

Emergency Incident Responses:

On April 18, fire crews responded to a reported structure fire on Sloat Road. Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters found newspapers burning on top of a desk in the rear bedroom.  The fire was caused by a desk lamp that had been knocked over onto the newspapers.  Only minor damage occurred.

Other incident responses are listed on the Monthly Response Activity Report.

Apparatus and Equipment:

All district apparatus are in service.

Training:

In April firefighters participated in the following training drills or sessions:

·       Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

All personnel participated in a CPR refresher course at the Carmel Hill fire station.  Firefighters were also required to participate and pass their quarterly AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) testing at the same time.

·       Ropes and knots

Firefighters reviewed the basics of ropes and knots in preparation for the upcoming rope rescue course.  The training also included a refresher of various rigging systems and over the side rescue procedures.

·       Building Construction

Several firefighters attended a Building Construction course at the Hyatt in Monterey.  The class gave personnel an in depth look at various building construction techniques, different types of building materials used today and in the past.  It also focused on the signs of potential building collapse and rescue operations.

·       Truck Operations

Firefighters participated in a Multi-Agency Training drill at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Seaside with Truck 6671. The training allowed firefighters to practice truck operations at a high rise fire.  The drill was conducted with Seaside, Marina and Monterey Fire Departments.

General Information

·       The annual fire hydrant flow testing has been suspended while Cal Am concludes repairs to the Forest Lake storage tanks.  Staff has met with Cal Am and the tank repairs have been concluded.  Cal Am is in the process of getting these tanks back on line.  We anticipate being able to initiate flow testing in June.

·      The Monterey Peninsula Country Club project is currently the largest construction project in the forest.  Initial fire inspections have been conducted on the basement sprinkler system, as well as the re-model on the original building.

·      Final preparations for the Open House are underway.  We are at twenty confirmed vendors tables.

Maintenance to the Fire Road 23 Fuel Break

Maintenance to the Fire Road system

Continue the thinning of the Huckleberry Hill Fuel Break.
