1.  2006 Sewer Line Replacement Project

A recommendation to award a construction contract for the 2006 Sewer Line Replacement Project is included in Agenda Item Number 16.

2. Third Priority Fire Protection Water Pipeline Replacement Project

Installation of the remaining site water lines for the Third Priority Fire Protection Water Pipeline Replacement Project was completed at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club construction project.  A final payment of $8,400 will be made to Monterey Peninsula Engineering.

3.  Fourth Priority Fire Protection Water Pipeline Replacement Project

E2 Consulting Engineers (E2) started final design work on the plans and specifications for the fourth priority fire protection water pipeline replacement project, which should be ready for bidding in October.

E2 completed fire hydrant testing in the Del Monte Forest with assistance from the Fire Department and California American Water.  The results are summarized on the attached table.  Fire Hydrants located in the Rodeo Road neighborhood (FH 178, 179, 180, 181, 270 and 273) all tested well below the flows predicted by the hydraulic model.  The model assumes friction factors for each pipeline segment based on the nominal diameter of the pipe.  Old steel pipe can often corrode on the interior surface reducing the effective diameter and flow capacity of the pipeline.  In this case, a significant period of time was required to flush out the pipelines prior to hydrant testing, which suggests a corrosive environment is present.  Based on the field testing, water lines on Rodeo Road will be included as part of the 4th priority water project.  Test results for other fire hydrants (FH 049, 060, 069, 074, 084, 200 and 201) confirmed the priority of other segments of pipelines included in the 4th priority project.
