Open House Summary 2010

The District’s annual Public Safety Day and Open House was held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

The PBCSD Staff members that were involved with the coordination of the Open House and Public Safety Day are happy to report another successful event.  The direction, commitment, and support the staff received from the Board is greatly appreciated.

This year, “Kids Corner” was once again coordinated by Fire Captain Jennifer Valdez.  She was assisted by FF Mary Lou Young in teaching the children the various components of home fire safety.  The children were also treated to Sparky’s Bounce House, Home Depot construction practice and face painting.  There were significantly more children this year.

The fire extinguisher training was very popular again and firefighters conducted the training most of the day.  The number of fire extinguishers serviced increases each year and the number sold has steadily decreased.  No smoke or carbon monoxide detectors were sold.

A total of thirty two exhibitors or vendors were present, including two fire department related tables.  We had to graciously turn down seven requests from potential participants

Firefighters conducted station tours, which were popular, and staff, CERTs, PBCSD personnel and the CAL FIRE forester held garden tours with explanations on defensible space and suggested plantings.

Staff will be conducting a post incident review of this year’s event in the coming weeks. The focus will be to reaffirm that we are meeting the goals of the District Board and to discuss recommendations to improve future events.  We have asked each participant to feel free to offer suggestions for improving the popular event.a

The child who won the Pebble Beach children’s turnouts was Laura Kim, daughter of Mia Kim, a resident of Pebble Beach
