Garbage Collection, Disposal & Recycling

PBCSD provides garbage collection and disposal services through a contractual agreement with Waste Management Inc., dba Carmel Marina Corporation (CMC). PBCSD has an exclusive franchise agreement with CMC to provide these services until the year 2015. The District levies a user's fee on all residences to pay for mandatory basic garbage and refuse collection services.

The fees for the basic services are collected for the District by the Monterey County Tax Collector's Office on the property tax bills. The residential basic garbage service includes a 96-gallon wastewheeler for yardwaste, a 36-gallon container for regular trash and 64-gallon container for mixed recyclables (paper, plastic, aluminum, glass) collected at the curbside. As part of the basic service residents can request one-way on-site delivery or pickup service within 100 ft of the curb free of charge.

Residents can request any collection services in excess of this provision or other supplemental residential services such as larger containers by calling CMC at 384-5000. The fees for supplemental services are billed directly to them by the garbage company.

Similar to most peninsula cities, the garbage collected within PBCSD is delivered to the Monterey Regional Waste Management District (MRWMD) landfill in Marina. For useful recycling information please visit their website.
